Matrix is a decentralized, federated, encrypted chat protocol. You can find more information about what that means on the federation page.

In order to use matrix, you need an account on a homeserver and a client with which to connect to it. I host a homeserver here, but you'll have to find your own client. I recommend Cinny. If you want an account on my homeserver, you'll have to contact me directly and have me set one up for you.
